Hairspray
I was maternally miffed recently when someone who had sprayed toxic hairspray in my home whilst I was pregos, did so AGAIN, when my newborn infant was in a house where they were. Honestly. (Needless to say, her children have allergies. Shocking.)
Hairspray is so toxic, that there is actually a disease called “hairspray lung” (you can’t make this stuff up.) It’s also listed as 1 of the top 10 home pollutants by the EPA and American Lung Association. And infants, as you may know, breathe in TWICE to THREE times the air as adults, and are more than two fold as susceptible to their toxins. Needless to say, this storm of spray was in an enclosed home in freezing weather, so I had no escape.
Luckily, for those of us not intent on poisoning infants, there is organic hairspray, by the same cat who founded (then sold) Aveda. I have used a few products in this fabulous (expensive) line, called Intelligent Nutrients, and can only imagine that the hairspray is likewise wonderful.
Do I sound angry? Good.
If you know anyone who actually still uses hairspray – please let them know about organic options. If they don’t live near a Whole Foods, they can always order very nicely priced Aubrey Organics from Amazon.
Happy New Year!
