Party Menu for Toddles

I have never understood why children’s birthday parties are so filled with “food” that should be banned until they have allowance enough to buy it themselves. Especially since it literally makes them sick. Who hasn’t seen the wee ones GREEN after a fiesta where they have consumed their weight in rubbish. Poor babies. And it is SO easy to make healthy and YUMMY foods that children will like! Banish the evil crap. And don’t worry that the other mums may call you “smug mum” or roll their eyes when you haven’t a nitrate on the table. Sod’em.
Starters: Raw sweet potato “fries”and chipotle “mayo“, will disappear in seconds. I’ve had these – and sweet Mary they are YUM! Basically, you can do this with any root veg. And kids love the color.

“Rawchos”. Even your Wisconsin bred husband will like these – though they are basically veg on veg. Gluten, dairy, meat free nachos never looked or tasted this good.

Basically, you can use any gluten free “nachos” (or flax seed crackers, if you dare), upon which you can add layers of black bean puree (or any other bean), avocado, peppers, olives, vegan cheese , pico de gallo and easier to buy than make vegan “sour cream”. I like a dusting of scallions on mine – but wee ones may not. (If you melt the “cheese”, it isn’t technically raw – but it is still uber healthy.)
Main: There are a thousand “fake” hamburgers…but I think these “blood red” ones may be great for gory boys, or they could be “princess pink” burgers for girls. Basically, beets and tofu – which sounds vile – but is yum! (When I was a vegetarian I used to get the beet burger at Houston’s, a chain. I still remember how amazing they were.)

Or edemame burgers:

Or, your average veggie burger:

Salad: No mayo ‘tato salad. Always a winner.

Dessert: Boys will love this, as it looks like…poo. It’s raw, vegan and delish - but all they need to know is – it looks like poo.

It’s just 6 ingredients from Whole Foods, buzzed in a blender for a few secs, and then refrigerated. That’s it. Too easy.
And these black bean brownies are the bomb.

Not a goddess in the kitchen? Worry not…a Whole Foods is never more than a few blocks away.
Bonne Fete!
(PS: Obviously, all you need to do is click on the links to see the photo/recipe sources…but I assume you clever mums know that. Tonight someone thought that I was pilfering their photos – so I thought I’d be very clear that I highlight all links to content. Sweet dreams!)
