Be Chintzy!
I’d like to take it back. Generally, I detest prints and prefer neutral colors on children – especially on girls who I feel have recently been turned into pink meringue fluffles of silliness.
But the exception proves the rule – and my ardent anglophilia – coupled with a deep and enduring love of toile – makes me heart and adore Mad Sky Kids organics. Not only do they have organic toile (please may I have the suppliers name) – but God Save the Queen this woman loves her some chintz.
I’ll not lie. I love chintz. On dusty curtains, overstuffed sofas and most especially – BABIES!
Perfect for the Henley Regatta.
Are these dresses not darling?!
I can just taste the Pimms.
All of these beautiful togas are currently available on Zulily at up to 65% off! If you have a wee lass you simply MUST stock up for next Spring so that your little Poppy or Saffron can be the belle of the playground. At these prices – the above dress for $15.99! – she can be chic and run into a non-washable marker without mummy cringing.
Mad Sky Kids is my new favorite.
Bless Zulily for the find….

Isadorable….
Though my son (above) doesn’t leave the house on a breezy day sans scarf, I do have sudden flashes of Isadora Duncan, followed by the mini sweats. Which is why I adore these infinity scarves from Mini Mioche - an organic clothing company out of Canada, eh?
How perf is this scarf. Not only that, it looks chicly draped in a circle by the most expert of Parisian hands – when only thrown on by the most hurried of Mid Western housewives.
In addition to their boys basics – Mini Mioche has a few tres adorable pieces for the young ladies…
This easy to layer red riding hood tank thing is delicious.
And I honestly think that mushroom works on little girls. Especially for mums sick of pink. (If I see one more pink princess ANYTHING….)
Not only do they have togs, but look at these sweet sandals that are on sale – so Euro and perfect for next Spring… or Florida…
Sadly. Not available in red.
Mini Mioche is a great brand for mums that love the basics – but don’t want their children to look like they fell into the GAP. Or be covered in all those nasty chemicals that the Chinese love so.
Made in Canada by Canadians. And who doesn’t like Canadians?!
Bonne Weekend!

Serendipity
Thankfully, Serendipity - a wonderful organic Danish brand I have just discovered, is available in the US. And I can’t wait to order a few pieces.
I want to gobble up this entire outfit.
Not only does Serendipity have beautiful boy and girl baby things – and quite an extensive collection to boot – it also has clothes for toddles and older children. Beautiful clothes with prints that don’t belong on your grans curtains or in a Boca Raton Holiday Express.
Sweet – but not too – these breezy dresses are Marthas Vineyard ready.
Lovely.
It’s so difficult to find an organic brand that has a really fulsome collection – so I’m glad that the Danes not only have this one – but that we can actually get our desperate little green hands on it stateside.
Goedenacht!

Do not go gently…
Someone at Go Gently Baby has a wardrobe with as few colors as I do.
Simple – but with slightly cheeky proportions – (such as exaggerated bows) – Go Gently Baby isn’t as understated as it first appears.
These basics beg for fun tights or skirts to let them bloom to their fullest.
Their boys collection is equally handsome – but Fall ’11 images weren’t to be had….
Organic just keeps getting more fabulous.

Esencia Essentials
My son has more cashmere than I do. My soon to be son has more Loro Piana cashmere than most Italians. Me? I wear natty old cotton. I can’t afford to dress nicely after I kit these boys out.
If you have a cashmere “problem” – stop reading now. Save yourself. Run!
Esencia makes the most gorge organic cashmere essentials. Its too beautiful and will make you want to have a dozen more children.
Those Danes really DO know what they are doing. This stuff looks ten ply if it looks one.
This stuff is so beautiful (my baby has one of their cardis) and feels heaven.
Perfect for your friend who only uses Maria Santa Novella candles and reads Shelley, Esencia is another eco-luxe brand that will please the poshest mama. Verdant or no.

Yankee Vintage
Though they don’t have much of a selection – the one or two pieces that you’ll end up with, such as these two lovlies, are worth the bookmark.
Little Eero is domestic and super inexpensive. And if I had a wee girl – both this houndstooth (above) and cape would be on their way to her closet.
You just don’t see enough capes.
Belle Heir is still my fave childrens vintage shop – but little treasures like these keep one on the hunt….

French Vintage
My sons vintage clothing collection keeps growing as I love knowing that they will never show up in the same outfit as the other fellow – or looking like a catalogue photo. But sometimes, that means ordering bits and bobs from overseas – paying in shipping what I’m saving in buying rubbish clothes that fade or fall apart after a few washes.
As we all know that those Gauls can dress a child – here is a look at a few finds from a little French shop called Little Vintage…
Nautical. Always, but always in style.
With a wee baguette under her arm, and sweet little white sandles….
I’m obsessed with coats, scarves and hats on children. Especially coats. Most especially double breasted. Oh! Mon Dieu! (Vintage buttons are always the piece de resistance.)
Little Vintage also has darling vintage furniture, toys and books – but those may be too heavy to ship.
Vintage used to mean old and dingy – but now it’s chic and timely (and green!). Just a few pieces in your bebes wardrobe and they’ll look très magnifique!
Off to the cafe….

Elias and Grace
My favourite (with a “u”) online children’s store from the UK is Elias&Grace. This is a shop that never gets it wrong and that I wish I could open here, in Chicago, one day. Not only are the clothes all up to EU textile standards – they are simply sublime. Not one of the flawless outfits or “looks” that these people put together is anything but tickity boo.
These are togs that you can buy your seven year old, that will still look flawless in a few years on your newest babe in arms.
(Please may I have the jacket on the right?!) These are not the clothes for mums who love brights and huge polka dots – but those mums have Juicy Couture.
Seriously. Why can’t all children be dressed like this?
Elias and Grace does the boy’s clothes as beautifully as the girls – so that the former aren’t left with their nose pressed against the window.
You work so hard to dress you smallest ones in gorgeous, safe clothes. Your older ones can be just as gorge and just as formaldehyde free. And thats no Elias.
(Please check individual manufacturers web sites for additional textile information.)

Winter Wonderland
The curiously named Winter Water Factory has lovely organic togs for the mum who likes that color + print Scandinavian look. Though I am not usually a fan of either – (except for a soft and pale Liberty print), I thought that these were just bright enough to be happy – rather than blinding.
And for the boys…
Is there a boy who doesn’t love heavy moving equipment?
Or…
This last one is very pen and ink, no?
Winter Water Factory also makes sheets and clothes for bigger boys and girls. The former available at The Land of Nod.
************
Speaking of The Land of Nod, I recently realized that not many people know the poem – though the original reference is Biblical. It’s really lovely – so if you’ll indulge me, I’ll post it here.

Baby has ‘tude
Out of the UK, Babatude has yummy enough to eat eco-cashmere and woolies for baby.
I am loving this nautical jumper – and only wishing that it had a hat.
And these wee dresses! Tres adorable.
Perfect for gift giving, Babatude is worth the shipping.
Ta!
