There are a few products that every woman loves, and will go so far as to buy you, confident of conversion.
For me, Mrs. Meyers cleaning products in Basil are one, Badger Balm is an another – and these Nature Babycare nappys are the latest.
I HEART these nappys. Though I also was nothing but satisfied with Earths Best nappys, I ADORE these.
First of all, they have a wider crotch (horrible word), which my boy, with Hun blood from both sides, needs – as he is just wider all round. Like Earths Best, they are 100% chlorine free – which is key. They are also free of icky dyes, and that scary “super absorbent” gel stuff that conventional nappys have.
But wait!
There’s more!
Nature Babycare nappys, are – shock of the century – Swedish, and based on biodegradable materials (corn), including it’s super absorbent insides. Our boy never, in all fairness, had a “blow out” in his Earths Best, but nor has he in these. They do NOT leak, which you assure Pampers moms, and they aren’t covered in insipid characters, that are just there to get your child interested in brands as early as possible.
Statistics to consider (or share with a Pampers mom):
1) The average child will use 8000-10,000 diapers in his childhood. Thats 21 BILLION diapers in a landfill A YEAR! Source
2) Even healthy for the skin cloth diapers use water. And lots of it. (Not as much as golf courses, but hey…)
3) Chlorine, found in conventional diapers, is evil. Not only do you not want it next t babys skin, the production of chlorine for those 10,000 diapers junior will need, produces dioxin. The Devils breath. Dioxin is not only a carcinogen, it’s also a mutagen and tetrogen and bioaccumulates in humans and wildlife. It pollutes the air, water and ground. It’s also found in ALL of our bodies, including breastmilk. Lovely. So. Chlorine diapers: Rubbish.
So. If you are reading this blog, you are most likely a green mum – so do try one wee package of Nature Babycare – I hope you’ll love them as much as we do.
Tackar så mycket!

Saturday Snippits

Many newborns, like a handsome young man I know named Oliver, hate being naked – or too jostled at nappy change time. This lovely organic “OneZee” looks like something your great grandfather wore, but has a nice snap down all nappy access design, which should keep baby happier. It also looks as though it has the room that we cloth nappy mums need.
And also from NaturalPod (where you will discover the most beautiful collection of natural hand carved car/trucks), a it’s-so-bloody-obvious bath toy, that I have never seen before (my only concern, would be my newly developed “you could poke your eye out with that ” radar) bath raft.

Very Swiss Family Robinson, no?
And along the same lines, for only the most ardent and verdant of mums (even I’m not this granola), the same toys that our Neanderthal ancestor’s played with…

Have a happy, fresh air, outdoors, imaginative, telly free weekend.

Nappilicious

Depending on the baby, diapers can cost an average of $80 a month. Egads. So a practical, and still shower worthy present is the diaper cake. Now available in organic.

My favourite diaper cakes are from a darling store called Mason & Matisse. The no-chlorine, biodegradable diapers are presented with organic (inside and out) plushes and other organic mummy treats.

The brilliant thing about these cakes is that they are non-fattening, and she will be thrilled if someone else gets her the same thing. Like real cake, you simply cannot have enough.
Another company, called Grow In Style, also makes eco nappy cakes which may suit if you drive a small Prius.

Or, make you happy if you are French, and your “go to” gift is Sophie the Giraffe, which allows you to gloat about how France has had safe baby teethers since Napolean.

For the more hippy amongst you, you can always find cloth diaper cakes (ask the mum first!) on Etsy…

or make your own, with these handy instructions.
Though seemingly uninspired after it was “done” on Sex In The City”, the diaper cake is like a string of pearls. Always suitable. Always perfect.
Just cheaper.

Future Watch: Nappy Eating Robot?

The Italians, who, let’s face it, are better known for making things beautiful, rather than practical (for this we have Huns), are working on something quite extraordinary: a rubbish eating and composting robot!
Why would I post about such a thing here? Well…if they can manage such a cosa stupenda, can a nappy eating bot for the nursery be too far behind? Non penso!
Let’s hope that the inventor has bambinos in pannolinos.
