Mini Social
A huge lover of deal a day/week member shopping sites like Zulily and Gilt (why spend cash you don’t need to on full price or valet?!) – Mini Social is having a great sale on Luca Charles organic basics today.
These are “stock up” pieces that you need for under sweaters in winter and as loungewear when the Spring (finally) arrives.
In all the colors that you need and the simple styles that go with anything (in our case, basics for under blazers), Luca Charles makes lovely pieces that are slightly thicker cotton than Under the Nile. Perfect for the Midwest – maybe a wee bit heavy for Florida.
I know it seems a pain in the so much bigger than before the baby bum to sign up for these sites – but honestly – they DO have wonderful deals on organic clothes – and as fast as they grow – you’ll need the savings.
Plus. I never really plan my shopping – I kind of enjoy when the universe just pushes it my way.
But I’m a Pisces.
I leave the planning to the Virgos.
Ta!

Lady Gray
Available at Pure&Little, one of the most darling online shops, Whitten Grey makes some of the most exquisite and European looking organic clothes on the market.
This gray dress is pure Jil Sander. Any woman would be happy to have this hanging on a poofy hanger in her closet.
What I like about these dresses, is that they aren’t too “sweet”. This is what little girls wear when mummy reads something slightly headier than Vogue. These dresses have substance.
Simple. But not romance in sepia. There is still structure here.
For a girl too young for a LBD a LGD will do. And rather nicely, thank you.
Of all the domestic brands I’ve seen, Whitten Grey is the the most perfect.
Not too “grown up” – but not too silly. And green enough for the cleverest mum.

Winter Wonderland
The curiously named Winter Water Factory has lovely organic togs for the mum who likes that color + print Scandinavian look. Though I am not usually a fan of either – (except for a soft and pale Liberty print), I thought that these were just bright enough to be happy – rather than blinding.
And for the boys…
Is there a boy who doesn’t love heavy moving equipment?
Or…
This last one is very pen and ink, no?
Winter Water Factory also makes sheets and clothes for bigger boys and girls. The former available at The Land of Nod.
************
Speaking of The Land of Nod, I recently realized that not many people know the poem – though the original reference is Biblical. It’s really lovely – so if you’ll indulge me, I’ll post it here.

Rico Nico
Lots of Green Mums buy a season in advance to save Benjis. This is an organic line that you may want to do just that with.
Nico. Nico. has “trendy”, easy to wear organic basics that I can see Maddox wearing.
Not too precious, Nico. Nico. has lovely separates that mum won’t worry about on the playground.
These are the clothes your child can dress up with cool eco-leather boots and a scarf for the City, or leave unadorned for the jungle gym.
Why is it that some mums don’t buy organic again?
Exactly.

Summer Sendoff
As this sweltering weekend proved, it is still, quite assertively, Summer. (My son, above, looking rather languid.)
Inspired by my cousin-in-law who is having twins after the New Year, I wanted to put together an organic outfit worthy of a mama who loves Lilly P. and has monogrammed knickers. (The womans’ gravestone will be monogramed. I kid you not.)
Mama Moderne, a new find for me – has lovely Spring/Summer dresses that will work in the South all year long – these were my two faves…
Paired with an organic cardi (I always like to change the buttons to something vintage – but that’s just me)….
With eco-friendly, formaldehyde free sandals…
And you have a very sweet and organic look that will take you up and down Worth Avenue without anyone knowing you are “green”.
Being preppy and green is one of the greater style challenges – but with a wee bit of WASPY effort, it can be done.
And then mummy can have her martini.
DO be a dear and fetch us one…

Flora & Henri and other sales…
Flora & Henri, a lovely little shop out of grungy Seattle, has a wonderful sale on – which includes some lovely organic sets. Crisp and classic, elegant and suitable for Summer on the Cape – these togs are exactly what little Saffron and Chase should be kitted out in.
Also still having a sale (where I picked up some wonderful Tane organic pieces today, is Odille, here in Chicago.
For older preppy heirs, Papo D’Anjo is having an up to 70% sale on its wonderful wares. This is one of the only shops that sells proper European check shirts (which I love), red chinos (ditto) and “pastel” cashmere – which looks so gorge on little princes.
Beautiful clothes are more spendy than, lets say – GAP – but so worth the “oooohs” and “ahhhhs” and pictures. If you shop the sales and plan for a season in advance (go larger when in doubt), you’ll be able to afford to dress junior beautifully, without needing to get a second job. And well made clothes actually look new for #2 – so you are saving money if you plan on more than one.
Childhood is a special occasion. Shouldn’t they be dressed for it?

Hermoine is always right
Emma Watson is what every green mum dreams of: a lovely, extraordinarily accomplished young lady, who is at a top East Coast school and who believes in green so deeply, that she will model – gratis – for Alberta Ferrettis new organic line “Pure Threads”.
Inspired by a young boho Jane Birkin – Pure Threads will be the latest high end organic brand to join the wardrobes of the sartorial greenies. Think diaphanous flowing dresses, poet shirts that billow romantically in the breeze and lace emrodoired denim that will compliment a pale lip and impossibly long lashes.
Fresh, hopeful, good and pure. Like babies. Like all clothes can be. Like everything should be.
Hermoine was always my favourite little wizard.

It’s in the Genes
If I had had a daughter, she would have very few clothes that didn’t involve ruffles. (I’m Cuban – we invented ruffles.)
Green Genes, a local Green Baby store, has a rather extensive line of organic baby clothes – with a great selection of feminine girl togs that don’t look “organic” or “hempy”.
These two sweet bloomers are what caught my attention, as well as these onesies that have ruffly detailing…
and…
And though it may not have ruffles – this organic double breasted Fall peacoat is the loveliest I have seen…
Honestly. Organic clothing keeps evolving into beautiful clothing that is as stylish as it is responsible.
Green Genes carries all the baby basics that a Chicago mama could need. And it’s local (for my Chicago readers), so you can shop green whilst keeping that carbon footprint lower (which is rather difficult with my size 10 feet).
Good genes are so important.
Happy Friday!

Frugi
The problem with many organic boy togs, is that they can be very graphic or “Rock-n-Roll” – which I frankly just don’t like. So I am always happy to find organic brands, even if EU based, that have sweet boy’s clothing. Such is the case with Frugi, another UK based brand.
I adore anything train – and like that this one isn’t a cartoon character (I’m avoiding all licensed characters as I know that they breed affinity and “wantitis”…a disease pronounced “want-eye-tis”…usually preceded by a case of the “gimmies” ).
I also love this alligator (or crocodile?) – having grown up in Florida where alligators are just prehistoric water rats.
And this robot is darling for your future Westinghouse Prize winner….
Of course Frugi also has lovely girl things – but I rarely feature them as EVERYONE has beautiful girl clothes.
They ship to the states – but aren’t all these wonderful UK based organic baby stores almost worth a trip over?….

Dress It

Though I realize that I won’t always be this big – I am also dubious about returning to my non-pregs size by New Years. As this New Years will be spent at home with my new exceedingly short, bald, drooling date - I won’t need to wear one of these gorgeous organic/eco dresses by Allison Parris. A double edged sword that.
Allisons stunning clothes use sustainable, organic and/or repurposed fabrics as well as recycled PET satin, made from recycled soda bottles, to line many of its pieces.

They are flirty and theatrical, and perfect for ex-ballerina’s. (Or any mum that wishes that she had been.)

If you are Cuban, you will LOVE that her dresses are prone to ruffles and shiny this or that…

If you are a British PhD, you’ll love that she appreciates feathers (no animals were harmed and all that…)

And if you are my sister, you’ll fawn over her collars…

Warning : These clothes are not cheap. They are truly beautiful – but, spendy.
Dear Santa….
